The semiconductor sector is approaching the key primary uptrend line support following the recent divergent high. The sector still looks poised for a significant correction with a sell signal to come on a break & close below these respective trendlines on the following three semiconductor ETFs; SOXX, SMH & XSD. Additional confirmation for a sell signal on the semiconductor sector will come on a breakdown of the largest semiconductor stock, TSM (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.). TSM is currently sitting precariously on its 2+ year, very well-defined primary uptrend line, also following a divergent high/bearish rising wedge formation & will [...]
A brief (8 minute) overview of QQQ, SPY & the semiconductor sector via SOXX, XSD & SMH.
The recently highlighted 60-min divergences (first chart below from Aug 18th) have been confirmed with QQQ bouncing today (2nd chart). Hard to say how far they will play out but with the outlook for the more significant daily time frame bearish, my expectation is that this bounce will likely be capped by any of the 3 resistance levels above on the updated 60-minute chart. The story on the three main semiconductor sector ETFs is the same: They are all walking up trendline support while pinching towards the apex of a symmetrical triangle pattern where a breakout, one way or [...]
Analysis of the semiconductor sector via the ETFs; SOXX, SMH & XSD along with TSM. Also discussed are some general considerations & strategies when swing trading or investing. The video playback speed can be increased via the settings icon at the bottom right to reduce playback time. I've also inserted static images of the charts covered in that video below along with my take on BRKS, which was discussed in the video using a member's chart. The chart of MPWR below was posted in the trading room earlier today as a potential trade setup in the semiconductor sector as well. When [...]
This video provides analysis of the semiconductor sector via $SOXX (PHLX Semiconductor Index) & the 3 major semiconductor ETFs: SOXX, SMH & XSD. Also discussed are the pros & cons of trading the 3x leveraged ETFs, including SOXL & SOXS. The factors affecting the performance of leveraged ETFs when held for extended periods of time, which are often detrimental but can be very advantageous at times, apply not only to SOXS & SOXL but all leveraged ETFs in general. Price targets & trade entry points & key developments to watch for are covered as well.
An overview of some of the recent significant technical developments in the major stock indices as well as a few sectors & individual stocks that stand out as attractive trading opportunities at this time. Also discussed are the pitfalls of becoming complacent after a period of unusually low volatility & benefits of being prepared at all times with a trading plan as well as a list of potential trading opportunities, should a potentially lucrative trading opportunity suddenly emerge. The indices, sectors & individual stocks covered in the video are listed in the tags at the bottom of this post.
XSD (SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF) has made an impulsive breakdown below the primary uptrend line off the early 2016 lows. Comparable trendline breaks are pending on SOXX (iShares PHLX SOX Semiconductor Sector ETF) & SMH (VanEck Vectors Semiconductor ETF) as they are currently testing TL support. A break & close below the trendlines on both SOXX & SMH will greatly decrease the odds that today's breakdown in XSD will prove to be a whipsaw (false) sell signal. Semiconductor stock trade ideas to follow asap but one could always use any of these ETFs as a proxy to short the [...]
