CVX (Chevron Corp) is quite likely the longest standing Active Trades on the site at this time.  CVX was added as an active short trade back on April 26th 2013 at a price of 120.15 with stated expectation that the trade could likely continue somewhat higher, which it did, rising about 6% from that point.  However, in spite of one of the most resilient bull markets in history since that time, CVX topped back in July of last year and is trading below the original short entry (and any subsequent add-ons).  The preferred strategy at the time was to only initiate a half-position while scaling in to the remaining position or adding on a backtest of the trendline.  For quite some time, the case has been made that the current cyclical bull market in CVX, which began with the Oct 2008 bottom in the stock, is approaching its final stages and that the next bear market in the mega-cap energy company will likely come on a break & close below this latest bearish rising wedge pattern (on the monthly chart).  My ultimate downside target remains the 24-year old secular bull market uptrend line generated off the Jan 1985 lows in XOM, a trendline that has not been visited by the stock in nearly 11 years.

A link to the live weekly chart (shown below), along with weekly swing targets, is now available from the Live Chart Links page and may also be viewed by clicking here.  That link can be found along with a link to the daily chart of CVX under the Market Leading Stocks category (CVX is one of the largest components of the S&P500).  A link to the live chart of CVX is not available as StockCharts.com does not have the ability to plot a chart that is unadjusted for dividends but not stock splits.  As such, it is not possible to view an accurate representation of the long-term price history of any dividend paying stock, such as CVX, over a long-period of time, if that stock has split at any point in that time frame.  I have address this issue with StockCharts.com & they have agreed to look into this shortcoming in their software but I have yet to hear back on a resolution at this time.
