In reply to ds2000.

PALL has started to go parabolic. As such, there isn't anyone "clear" or obvious trendline in which to trigger a high-probability short entry if/when taken out. As such, I will be on watch for any potential bearish reversal candlestick patterns. Here's a visual guide to various candlestick patterns: http://thepatternsite.com/CandleVisual.html

Top that occur after a parabolic advance following an extended uptrend quite often start off with a bang & are hard to miss although there are some serious supply/demand imbalances going on with palladium so we'll just have to assess the charts as they develop & be aware that whipsaw signals are always possible & part of the game. The key is managing the position so if the next sell signal proves to be a false/whipsaw signal, we minimize our losses with a stop & just wait patiently for the next setup if the trade doesn't pan out.

If the top in PALL comes anytime soon, I'm looking for a drop of at least 26% from where it closed on Friday so assume a short entry came with the market resumes trading tomorrow (following the MLK holiday closure today), a 6% stop loss would offer better than a 4:1 R/R (minus whatever downside was needed to provide a sell signal).

B/c of the nature of PALL's move up, I don't have any one clear and obvious trend line to mark. One of them is in the 220 area, another down around 205. Your thoughts?

Yes, the end is most likely near but one should never underestimate just how far & fast a security can run in the latter stages of a parabolic rally or blow-off top (see Nasdaq circa H2 2000). When the turn finally comes, I wouldn't be surprised to see /PA drip 20% in a week or less. Last of the shorts (metaphorically, not literally speaking) are being squeezed out here & the bids are likely to collapse once the machines (algos) flip the switch from "buy" to "sell".

No, to the best of my knowledge (and I've searched) there are not any inverse ETFs for palladium. You might come across one on a web search but it is no longer trading.
PALL, /PA (palladium futures) and /PAM (mini palladium futures) are the only direct plays on palladium that I am aware of. Unfortunately, PALL does not have any options (puts or call) and /PA is a rather fat contract, representing a $229k net exposure to palladium while the micro contract is so thinly traded that even Interactive Brokers won't add it as a security available to trade on their platform (I checked with them as it would have been nice to layer in multiple small lots of /PAM vs. /PA).
