A lot of companies can not pay those mark ups and will just not run production runs until they get parts from regular distribution. This will hurt semiconductor companies that have parts available as well as ones which are not shipping as generally most products need parts from lots of different vendors. The companies that have really bad lead times (one that comes to mind Texas Instruments but there are plenty of others) will lose design wins going forward and may even be designed out of existing products if possible. One of the reasons Tesla was able to meet deliveries this year by adjusting designs to use different parts that were available

Hi Randy,
Just a general question. I work in manufacturing and we are getting killed by this semiconductor shortage. We are having to make spot buys at 120x the production price. How can a tight market lead to poor earnings? I know sales may be down if they are having trouble hitting quantities, but the chip companies can sell production directly into the secondary maket and make a killing.

Don't know what will happen way out in April, but in the short term certainly does NOT look to be ready to drop.

Especially, as the Congress just passed the $20B+ handout to help the 'poor' semi industry
