Just curious, what indicators lead you to believe the trend will be up tomorrow? Commodities are up, 10 year rate jumped up today (further signs inflation isn’t under control) … If Tesla misses there Q1 deliveries (which I suspect they will based on weak sales for EV’s both here and in China) indicating weakness from an over extended consumer, I’d lean toward a weaker then expected market in the morning …

Have you ever gotten a K-1 from an equity (non-commodity) ETF ?
(Especially a leveraged one ?)

I've been getting K1s from ETNs in IRAs for well over a decade & the distribution amounts are usually very small, typically under $10 if only swing trading less than 1k shares somewhat infrequently. Depends on the ETN, I would imagine, but that's from the usual suspects covered on this site such as WEAT, USO, UNG, CORN, etc..

That link is where I found the ETF list, and it is from 2012. I have been looking and have not found an updated list yet.

As for using an IRA account to trade, I did. The trades I made were in an IRA account. I read online that K-1's generated from limited partnerships (like Boil and AGQ) are taxable events EVEN in an IRA.

From an online site:

Exploring IRA and UBIT PoliciesIf your IRA earns more than $1,000 in unrelated business income as reported on the K-1s you received, the IRA must pay unrelated business income tax – UBIT – on the amount above the $1,000 cutoff. Not all of the distributions you receive from MLP investments will be UBI, and many partnership investments will report little or no UBI on the K-1s they send out. If the K-1s you received total to less than $1,000 in UBI, there is nothing you need to do. With more than $1,000 in UBI you need to contact your IRA custodian.

Open this link to my FAQ page & then click on the sub-menu for "ETF Related Questions" just below the top of the page. Then click on "What is a K1....".

https://rightsideofthechart.com/frequently-asked-questions/

I added a link to an article that contained a list of all ETNs issuing K1's at that time but that was years ago & not sure if that list has been updated or not but I'd imagine a google search might yield some more current lists.

Generally, most (but not all) ETP's that track commodities and the $VIX (all that I know of) are ETN's. If you want to trade a specific commodity that only has an ETN (other than the futures that the ETNs track), maybe use that in an IRA vs. a taxable brokerage acct.

Randy,
Could you answer a few questions I have about ETF's that generate a K-1 tax document ?
I just got surprised by a couple of late arriving ones from BOIL and AGQ.
( Don't even know why they sent them...there was zero interest, zero gains or losses, zero unrelated business income and zero "other income".)
Is it just commodity etf's that generate K-1's ?
Can leveraged equity, leveraged treasury, or foreign country etf's that hedge currencies generate K-1's ?
Is there anywhere online that lists ETF's that generate K-1's ? (I found one, but it was dated...from 2012.)

Not asking for tax information, but any information you may have about them would be helpful.
Some may be good to avoid.
Invesco has a "no K-1" commodity ETF... PDBC
