Randy, I'm getting setup with IB because my current broker is not suitable swing/active trading.
Do you use "Transparent Volume-Tiered Pricing" or "Fixed Rate Pricing"?
I am basically willing to pay a little fee here and there if that means my stops won't be divulged to algos trading against the crowd.
I'm just not clear yet on weather Transparent will turn out to be "too expensive" for a retail little guy confined to US exchanges (for now) compared to Fixed.
Thanks

I got out of it with a small profit. I should have made a lot more but got ripped off...
Would you short TVIX right now?
I would have done a lot better doing that instead. For 30 shares it costs me around $1000/year (Fidelity interests+fees) --which beats the hack out of buying puts.
My only hesitation is about whether it'll spike up again when this "denial" stage comes to an end.

I've warmed-down to the VIX tracking ETNs recently with more & more cracks development in the ETF & ETN world, especially those that use a lot of leverage and/or track very volatile sectors or commodities such as the gold miners, nat gas, crude oil, the $VIX, etc.. The safer bet is using their 2x or even better, their 1x (non-leveraged) counter-parts (e.g.- go long or short GDX vs. buying NUGT or DUST).

The more this market drops, and I think it will, the more likely additional cracks are likely to emerge with securities that employ fancy strategies & use of leverage & derivatives in an attempt to track or enhance the returns on a particular index, commodity or other security. Those cracks have already started to emerge (see the UWT, DWT, NUGT & DUST examples I mentioned in a couple of the threads above under the comments below this post).

In reply to <a href="https://rightsideofthechart.com/swing-trade-ideas-4-3-20/#comment-15170">bransth</a>.

It depends on how the sector trades going forward. If the semi starts another sharp, mostly unidirectional drop similar to the drop from March 4th to the 18th, then the 3x SOXS will likely outperform on a leverage-adjusted basis. Should the semis drop from here but with a lot of back & forth daily (green & red) closes and/or get stuck in a trading range for a while along the way, SSG is likely to outperform on a leverage adjusted basis. SSG also uses a smaller (2x) leverage factor which, all other things being equal, reduces the risk of the ETF company having an issue with continuing to provide the 200% inverse return of the sector.

DUST & NUGT are/were the 3x leveraged ETF tracking the volatile gold mining sector. The started to crack due to the extreme volatility recently & DUST & NUGT had to abruptly cut their leverage factor down for single day about a week ago & then announced they would be reducing the leverage from 300% down to 200% going forward. Be careful with the 3x etfs, especially those that track very volatile sectors or commodities (the DWT & UWT example was made in one of my videos yesterday).
