I’m far from an expert in the field but my thoughts, FWIW: The ballooning US federal deficit doesn’t matter…until it does. Nobody knows that point will be but some postulate it will be a relatively sudden flashpoint that triggers a mass exodus Treasuries as Ponzi schemes are never tapered off, rather they end in a bang.

Who really knows but the variables that can either extend or shorten the onset of any fiscal crisis in the US will be: 1) The future trajectory of gov’t spending (currently on an unsustainable upwards trend. 2) Whether & how much higher interest rates go (as that will determine how much the US will be paying going fwd to issue new Treasuries to pay for the maturing Treasuries coming due at near-bottom rates. 3) Economic growth (which determines how much the US receives in tax revenues from individuals & business 4) Whether or not (and when) the US gets involved in a major military conflict that requires massive gov’t spending.

Lots of fundamental variable but the good news is we can simply watch the charts of both Treasuries (as well as corp bonds) as well as the stock market to best gauge which direction both are headed.
