Daily period works just fine as well. I like the 4-hour because my charting software has afterhours prints on that time frame and not on the daily. Gold is getting a kick-back today but the ratio is still below that last broken TL.

Side note: At some point, I think war escalates and gold has a hard move higher on the headline. There was a report earlier this week by the WSJ that an attack by Iran on Saudi Arabia and Northern Iraq was “imminent”. The US confirmed the story. Hard to say when that will happen. The last time the US confirmed an attack was “imminent” was the Ukraine invasion. If I were Iran planning this, then a good time to launch the strike could be during the elections.

According to many options seller vix is crap now as a fear gauge with the advent of short dated vix options. No one hedges with monthlys anymore. so vix just sits limp. I would say maybe thats true.. we havent actually seen anyone running for the hills yet so maybe premature to claim its dead. But the argument is out there.

Thank you Scott, plotted GDX:GLD onto my StockCharts platform and backtested. Using daily under “period” for now, can’t seem to get the standard 4 hour time frame, got “bars” and 196 minutes which I don’t like. Have no idea how to get it back to the “old school”, I must’ve hit some damn button and now I’m in this weird time frame. Oh well.

I would assume due to interest rates / the dollar after the Fed announcement. I suggest watching the GDX/GLD ratio on a 4-hour chart. It gives very clear and accurate signals for when to go long or short gold. Just plot the TL breaks. The short signal was given premarket yesterday at 9am EST.

I think you started thinking it earlier perhaps but it came mainstream heavily up into the Fed. I think a lot of people have the idea that the fed wants things to be okay… I differ in that I think the point may be to make things not okay. The I’m “Volker” cloak JP is wearing may just give him the disguise to keep on hitting the economy down. That said the 320 area on spy and the 82 area on TLT will be hard to pass up for some sort of months long swing up in the retirement funds.

Not sure why GOLD (Barrick) and a couple of the other majors like NEM are getting hit hard today, maybe some bad headlines on the sector or those companies specifically? As far as gold the metal, we have a potential triple bottom with positive divergences on the 60-min & daily time frames so still a chance to put in a bottom & if metals bottom & start to rally soon, then the miners will likely follow suit.
