An index (or sector) is simply a sum of its parts or more accurately, a sum of its weighted parts, as most indices, such as the $NDX & $SPX, are cap-weighted, giving a higher weighting to the larger companies. As such, to know where the market is headed is simply to know where AAPL, GOOGL, MSFT, AMZN, etc.. are headed. Not always so easy but when you can make a clearly bullish or bearish case on all or most of those stocks, that can help confirm a bullish or bearish outlook for the market. Ditto for leading stocks in various sectors, such as NEM to GDX.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m learning alot from you. My analysis has never really included individual securities but I’m seeing the benefit of it.

I can’t predict what the Fed will do & say, nor what the market’s reaction will be with any degree of certainty. All I can do is analyze the charts & take shots on the clearly bullish & bearish setups so short equities, for now but nothing crazy.

/NG came quite close that that 2.50ish long-term (weekly chart) support today & still has a very well defined & steep downtrend line that is likely to trigger an explosive rally once taken out as well as that 2.990 resistance level on /NG.

Also, watch that daily PPO on both /NG & UNG for a clean bullish crossover…. very close now & that will most likely coincide with a solid breakout above the downtrend line. Nat gas should rip when we get all of the above & all of those buy signals are likely to trigger in close proximity.

The FOMC announcement on Wed followed by the ECB & BOE rate decisions on Thursday will almost certainly have an impact on the market but all I can say is that the case for shorting here is about as good as it gets IMO.

Not only with the big central bank’s meetings but also the triple earnings from AAPL, AMZN, & GOOGL on Thursday give this the potential to be one of the most volatile weeks of trading in a while so best to keep things somewhat light until those are out of the way IMO but I feel good being short equities right now & started scaling into shorts on the gold & silver miners today as well (just posted that one).

I would 2nd that question and add that it seems to me that the fed will disappoint. So does your being short into the announcement And then out prior to earnings Reflect that possibility? Thanks Also, an update on your NG Long call.

While it is likely that the FED announcement on Wednesday will be interpreted in many different ways, is it factoring into your outlook for the week? It seems like the speculation around earnings are weighted more than the speculation around interest rates?
