Thanks for the response. I understand the scenario where there is divergence in 5min and not in let’s say 1day time frame. Those two time frames a far apart, but sometimes I see divergents in only 5min and not in 15min nor 1min. I would think I should see divergence in near time frames also, but sometimes I don’t. Does this mean anything? Maybe a sign of a weak divergence if only seen in one time frame?!?

It is common to see divergences on one time frame and not another. Whether it is RSI divergence, divergences on other indicators, or really any potentially bullish or bearish developments for that matter, for the most part, the technical developments on each time frame indicate the technical posture & outlook for the security on THAT specific time frame.

e.g.- I may be bullish and long a security as a swing or trend trade idea based on a bullish trend and/or other bullish developments on the daily or weekly chart. Yet I might take a quick pullback short swing trade or a day trade in my active trading account based on a breakdown of a bearish chart pattern on the 5 minute time frame.

With that being said, I always look at all time frames when trading and give a higher weighting to the longer time frames. e.g.- If I have a stock break down below support on a 30-minute chart & based on that chart alone, it looked like a nice short trade yet the stock had very strong support and/or a bullish chart on the daily time frame, I would not short it. Hope that helps.

Randy, can you give some guidance with when one time frame has RSI divergence and at the same time another does not. What to follow or how to interpret?
