There aren't any buy signals for the Nasdaq 100, which is doing its own thing as it is in an uptrend making new highs on a near-daily basis. For the other indices, like SPY & IWM, I have been highlighting potential breakout levels such as the recent multi-month sideways range on the broad market, 146-146 on IWM, etc.. I've also shared my thoughts on how likely those buy signals will stick, if we get them. As of today, SPY has moved above the top of the trading range but the DJIA hasn't nor have the small-caps cleared 145/146.

I'm not a big fan of options. As I like to say, it's one thing to get the call right on WHERE a stock or index is headed but it brings in a whole other level of difficultly when trying to also nail the timing on WHEN it will get there. Hence, my preference for trading individual stocks, ETFs, & futures as you can be wrong on the timing but as long as the trade doesn't move beyond your stop, you can be right on the trade, even if it takes longer than expected to get to your target.
We did get what appeared to be solid sell signals on the market back on June 11th but since then, SPY never took out the next support levels & has traded in a multi-month sideways range. As of today, it has popped above the range (breakout) in what appears to be a potential blow-off top in the beloved FAAMG stocks plus a few other crowd favorites like TSLA & NFLX. I highlight suspect this will end badly & that end will come shortly but as of now, we just don't have any sell signals in order to me to say with confidence that those SPY puts will start to pan out shortly. Basically, you're approaching the theta-burn period on those July contracts so unless the market reverses & reversed very hard soon, they will likely continue to bleed down at a rapid clip.

Buy signals are much harder to come by when the Nasdaq reaches all time highs and the market has run this far this fast. A "sell signal" doesn't mean the market is going down, it means if the market makes a turn, this is a good place to do it. If you are shorting when Randy says "sell signal", I don't think you are interpreting his analysis correctly.

I am not sure I follow, but I think the premise is that we can say the market has been flat on a longer time frame but then it swings about 40-50% in between. But we're talking 7/27 puts here, so I thought maybe it's important to consider a shorter time frame (I'll explain below).

What I was trying to say, SPY has been bouncing between 300 and 317 since June, and more of 310 - 318 lately - tight range but that makes you $8 (loads of money) a contract if you buy at the top of the range sell at the bottom.

If you intend to buy a put option with 7/27 strike, you really want to nail your entry since you don't have much time on those contracts. So if you buy puts, buy them at the top of the range. At least when it swings down to 300, you can compensate a theta burn on the contracts and make some extra.

Don't get me wrong, there is enough volatility, SPY moves $3-4 you make good money, but those contracts are usually priced in to perfection anticipating that move, so you sacrifice to theta unless you have a good entry and better somewhere at the extreme reading, i.e top range - puts, bottom range - calls.

I started investing in the stock market back in mid 2007. I didn't know TA, didn't know almost anything about how the stock market works, just bought some stock because it was going up and made great profits on pure luck. Then the GFC came and I gave back those profits and then some. Fast forward 11 years, I know a whole lot more than I knew in 2007/2008 (TA basics, charts, fundamentals, monetary policies influence, etc.) but it does not seem to matter anymore. Might as well be buying like in 2007. I'm short to the top of that island cluster. Above it I'll switch from bear to bull, with a stop somewhat below it just in case the insanity comes to an end.

NQ has gone vertical, I didn't witness the tech bubble (college, no money to spare) but this is looking pretty "bubbly" to me. Bubbles burst but we can get crushed trying to guess when. It's tempting though...

Basically the market has been flat for almost 2 years (Aug 2018) in a broadening pattern but the NDX just retested the last breakout high (9743 to the nickel) Then ripped 4% higher NEVER sending a sell signal.(Garden variety pull back) 4% is a big move in a few weeks with no mention here of the technical s on that retest..Why? Charting 101..

It's a total catch 22. If earning surprise, we skyrocket. If earning disappoint, we skyrocket because more stimulus on the horizon. If COVID cases increase, we skyrocket, because more stimulus. If COVID cases decrease and/or vaccine approved, we skyrocket because we have stimulus and everything is Golden. Charts don't seem to matter in this environment, IMHO.

It seems like all the "sell" signals for the last 2 months have been bear traps. Shorts jump in and get squeezed which inflates the bubble even more. The buy the dip crowd has been doing great. I wonder how long this can keep going, as soon as I join the crowd it will stop working! Banks rallied Friday, XLF was up 3.8% while XLK was flat. They start reporting earnings next week. I suspect they made a lot of profit from the PPP fees. They could surprise to the upside and really juice the markets next week.

Thanks for the chart. I'll give on the island cluster, but we're basically touching it. Don't know at what point it will be invalidated (in it or over it). Two % points more on the SPY will take it out either way. Don't have the patience to look for the video in which Randy touches on it.

Always highlighting potential “sell” signals, trend-reversal signals. I wish you would please equally highlight the potential “buy” signals, the trend continuation signals. It’s been devastating missing out on this rally. It’s been catastrophic shorting it.

Well everyone is even more giddy now that the S&P has formed the beloved Golden Cross! We also broke out of the trading range and the island cluster pancake was even taken out on Friday too! Looks like it's nothing but UP from here now. One more point on the S&P and we will be at the last level of resistance on the chart above. May have even it it after hours. A few more points and S&P will be at an all time high with zero resistance, just like the QQQ. At this point I believe that if U.S. GDP were to be cut in half due to the emergence of new more dangerous pandemic causing global lock downs for years, that the major indexes would triple in value and bankrupt companies would be trading at all time highs! Just print more money and buy it all. Anyway, I've done nothing but wait for a decent pull back, which never came. I've always heard nothing goes straight up, but when the SPY and QQQ go up over 50 percent in 3 months - that's basically the definition of straight up. Consolidated twice but never a pullback. I really hate buying in at the highs and risk being a chaser, but I don't see any other alternative at this point. GLTA.

Dude, the market has gone nowhere in the past months. I am selling call options like mad every week. It will stop working one day, but we don't know when, and so far its been anything but a theta burner. If you want to gamble, at least buy puts at the top of the range.

Randy, I appreciate your great updates everyday.
I am struggling with my SPY PUT positions I currently have (318 )( exp7/27). Today SPY reached 318.50. (I was anticipating it would go down more when it touched 313 today. I also was thinking it would go back down after hitting resistance lev315.55 and 317. Nope it kept going up). I am at about 25% loss.
Now I am struggling myself to cut loss and sell it or keep it. Cuz 318.50 is critical level to go more up than down side. (But also it is at resistance level and I do have expiration days time). Thank you.
