Other than BYND, none of the processed foods stocks I posted were expected to be explosive or even 'immediate pay-off" type trade ideas. More so, potential bottoming plays with nice R/R profiles & dividend payouts, so one would get paid to wait, if they take a while to play out.
Plus, tech & most of the other high-beta crap have still been in favor. Once that trade starts to go the other way, we'll most likely start to see sector rotation into the defensive sectors away from the high-beta stuff.

Semis broke down yesterday with SOXX hitting & reversing off T1 so if/when T1 is clearly taken out & the semis start to build some momentum to the downside, that's when we're likely to see rotation into defensive stocks & sectors.

$VIX is calculated using put & call buying on the S&P 500, so it really doesn't respond much to moves the semis or even the Q's, unless the $SPX is seeing a similar, relatively big move.

I misinterpreted “sit tight” as in sit out of the trade, my bad. I initially did not understand why it was a trade if your view was to sit out of the idea. It makes sense now

easy....sector rotation. institutions are buying XLP and selling semi's...the vixy will spike when the sector rotation is finished and you see broad based selling.

Randy, SOXX is down almost 5% and Q's are down 1.5% but the VIX is up a relatively small amount. Normally a drop in the SOXX like that would result in a much higher spike in the VIX. Seems there is still not much fear out there. How do you interpret such a small move in the VIX given a pretty big down day? Do you think that signals a shallow pullback that will get bought?

In reply to PaleFlame.

The SOXX trade is not "completed" in the sense that it either hit the maximum suggested stop or the final price target.

There are three trade categories: Trade Setups, Active Trades, & Completed Trades (definitions of each can be found towards the top of their respective pages). Those categories are not mutually exclusive, meaning a trade can be in only one category (e.g., an untriggered Trade Setup or a Completed Trade that either hit the final target or max. suggested stop), but an active trade can also be two or all three categories.

SOXX is both a trade setup (still offers an objective short now, relatively close to the entry trigger vs the profit-potential left to the current final target... as well as another objective short entry to come on a solid break below the T1 support level).

It is a Completed Trade because it just hit the first price target & it is also an Active Trade, not yet having hit either the final target or max. stop.

To your last question, I made clear my preference to sit tight (not book profits or reverse to long for a bounce) at this time so if anything, I will only be adding to the position, depending on what I see with both the semis, the broad-market, crude oil, Treasuries, etc.. not re-entering as I am sitting tight for now.
