OCO, one-cancel-the-other, (aka, OCA, one-cancels-another) orders are the best way to manage positions whether in town & especially when away from your desk. Those orders allow setting a limit order to sell/close your position if/when your price target is hit with a second stop-loss order in place in case your stop is hit first. Once either of the two orders is triggered, the 2nd order is canceled. Just make sure to set the order expiration as GTC (good-til-canceled) and not a DAY order.

Check with your broker if not sure how to place OCO or OCA orders. You might find them under 'advanced order types' on some brokers, such as Fidelity.

@rsotc How do you play positions while you are out of town? I was in the everglades yesterday and didn't have service while the market had the big drop. Do you exit positions when you can't actively manage or just set stop/limit orders before you're away? I could have set a limit order for 100% profit in spy puts, but I just let it ride and gave up some good money
