Yes, that’s why i chose puts on the leveraged bull etfs rather than calls on the bear etfs. I think that way the decay works in my favor.

YW. Keep in mind that the best (and only, IMO,) time to use SOXS/SOXL or any other 2x or 3x leveraged ETF for anything more than a day trade, is when you expect what I call “mostly unidirectional” trend in the direction you are positioned for. That means a fairly steady uptrend or downtrend with minimal closes in the opposite direction. That’s when the leveraged ETFs won’t just “underperform” but will actually provide more than 200% or 300% the returns of the underlying index or sector they are tracking.

SOXX & many of the semis just triggered the latest sell signals, so maybe that will kick off that type of impulsive downtrend, although seasonality tends to work the other way through the end of the year & that also increased the chances of whipsaws (false breakouts/breakdowns).

As such, you might want to use the 1x (non-leveraged) ETFs when your confidence in not just WHERE the semis are going but also HOW they are going to get there isn’t very high. That way, you won’t be subject to the decay that the leveraged ETFs suffer from during choppy & sloppy back-and-forth trends.

Hi Randy,
Can you please give some perspective or resources that help you with managing emotions when trading?

I’m much better than I used to be, but when I’m in options and they are fast moving, it’s difficult to allow the plan to work. Watching 20, 30, 40% swings is pretty nerve racking.

I know the easy solution is to stay away from options if they are causing me trouble, but they have so much potential when paired with your trading philosophy

I don’t believe so. OJ futures are one of many lesser-traded futures contracts that don’t have enough interest from the retail crowd for an ETF company to roll out a product that tracks them.

I did (very) extensive coverage of the semis in the video that I just posted today so you might want to watch that as I cover the next support levels that will trigger additional sell signals, if & when broken, in addition to many of the recent sell signals. I also highlight price targets on many of the semis as well.

The late June low was a divergent (positive divergence) low, as would be any equal or marginally new low any time soon. However, SAM is trading below its 200-day MAs without any buy signals or evidence of a bottom/reversal, at least that I can see, at this time.

As such, I can’t make a decent case to step in at this time, but feel free to bump me on it again or point out anything that you think I might have missed or something else that might stand out.

I had hoped to cover UNG (along with the metals & miners) in the video I just published on the stock market & semis but it went too long. Basically, UNG is very oversold on the short-term chart & still at a higher low above the Oct 16th & 29th reaction lows. Something unusual about the magnitude of the recent drop & while that is quite odd & far from bullish, I suspect a strong bounce in nat gas next week is likely. I’ll try to share some more thoughts & look at the charts in the next video or a post update asap.
