@rsotc Randy what service do yo use for trading futures and what charting platform ? I frequently trade the indexes using 3x ETFs but often dare not carry positions over for fear of big moves in after hours. Which this year I believe the majority of the market moves have occurred after hours. thx

Yes, /KC (coffee futures) broke out above that 60-min/120-min bullish falling wedge pattern with the bullish divergences still well intact.

GTK, thx for the link. Limit orders only, just as with the normal extended-hours trading session but at least a means to get in (or out) of your SPY or QQQ trade, should you feel the urge, in the middle of the night.

Small positive divergences forming on the /DX 60m chart with small negative divergences building on the /E7 60m chart & /E7 currently trading at the 11897 resistance, which is defined by the 10/21 reaction high as well as other reactions. As such, I would put good odds on at least a consolidation & possible bounce (in /DX, pullback in /E7) so that might mesh with a pullback in gold.

Unless there is another platform or way to trade ETFs overnight, to the best of my knowledge the after-hours trading session still ends at 8 pm. Even then, liquidity dries up after about 6 pm but the much bigger limitation to trading in the extended hours sessions is the order type limitations (limit orders only, no stop-loss orders).
When trading futures, I use OCO (one-cancels-the-other) orders with a stop-loss (to protect my downside) & a limit order (sell limit on long, BTC limit order on shorts) at my price target. Nice not to worry about waking up to a 5%+ move against your position that long since bypassed where you would have normally pulled the plug (stopped out) on the trade.
I’d be interested to hear about TD Ameritrade’s overnight trading on SPY & QQQ, including order types allowed, but have to imagine the liquidity would be very thin.

BTW- One contract of /MNQ (Micro E-Mini Nasdaq 100 futures) represents about a $24k exposure to the $NDX which is less than 100 shares of QQQ, which represents about a $29,400 exposure. Same index but much more flexibility & control when trading futures with the nearly 24/7 liquid trading.

I know you can trade spy overnight if I’m not mistaken QQQ you can also trade as well at least on TD Ameritrade

Exactly why I often state my preference for trading futures over ETF. Both /NQ & /ES hit those targets almost exactly at 5 am EST & bounced impulsively from there, well before the pre-market session for stocks & ETFs opened. Therefore, a SPY & QQQ trader had no possible way to close out a short at that time while a futures trader, even if sleeping, would have had their buy-to-cover limit order set just above the trendline(s) filled.
