Just to further the reply – on top of me using your R/R 3:1 methodology – it helps to see where you have roughly placed your stops as by the time i get to see many of your trade posts – the market has moved (i am based in Australia) and my 3:1 calculations will be different to yours due to entry timing (such as todays QG trade) – and it helps to see where yours roughly are, not only from a learning perspective – but you have a highly accurate feel for the market and analysis. I have lost a lot of money lately due to whipsaws and stops getting taken out. Hence why insight into your stop positions have been helpful

Thx for the feedback. It's actually kind of simple really; I typically use an R/R of 3:1 or better on most trades, occasionally lower. I'll first measure the percentage gain to my preferred price target (or average gain, if multiple targets that I might scale out of) and then divide that number by 3 & then measure that percentage loss on the chart above (for shorts) or below (for longs) my entry point.

From there, I'll usually adjust the stop so it lies somewhat above (for shorts) or below (for longs) the nearest resistance or support level. That helps to avoid stop raids or setting a stop-loss order just below a resistance level (for a short trade) which is likely to cap any bounces (or just above a support level which is likely to contain any pullbacks on a long trade).

Hi Randy .... i really appreciate that you indicated where specifically to place the stops on the NG/QG trade (somewhat above the 6.703 resistance) - it helps a lot. Hope to see you do that more with other trades; such as NQ. Thankyou
