Well FWIW, I was short going into earnings. I think the character of the market is changing, but I do believe,NOW we are setting up for a big rally within the next few days. I'm done being short for the time being. I'm going to sit on my hands and watch this action. If the bearish conditions persist tomorrow, I will day trade the Q's and maybe GOOGL, I think in the short term, the bottom is near 980ish levels. But QQQ has become very interesting for me now. On the daily it is finishing the right side the shoulder, and may have a dead cat bounce to the 162-163 levels before heading back down. This market is crazy. It's been paying off being contrarian lately I think. Thank you Randy for your insight, you don't know how much you keep me grounded.

Yeah. The market in the last few of weeks had been mired by mega caps, specifically their negative news. Few weeks ago, it was FB with Cambridge Analyptica. And then AMZN with Trump's negative tweet-storm. And then AAPL with the TSM's negative guidance few days ago. Even though the general company's earning reports are good as indicated by rising A-D Lines. Looks like GOOGL might be the last of this hiccups from the mega caps.
Since we have these negative news from nearly all these mega caps out of the way, and the market still holding up, this suggest the market resilience, and bodes well for the market ahead.

I assume that you blinked then because GOOG shot up nearly 5% immediately after reporting & then plunged back down right about where it closed just as fast. I get what you're saying though. If you missed (or dismiss) that big rip which was immediately followed by an equal dip, the earnings beat was a non-event. While one could view this any way they want (bullish, bearish or neutral/a non-event), I view it as helping the bullish case since we now have earnings for one of the biggest components of the NDX & SPX out of the way without any big surprises & with the stock settling back down to about where it closed in the AH session, it is probably safe to assume the risk of the market gapping down tomorrow, at least due to GOOG's earnings and/or guidance, has now been eliminated. That leaves the bullish technical setup intact so all we have to worry about now is overnight headline risk or any of the economic reports due out tomorrow (none of which I am concerned with, FWIW). Nothing is 100% but I think the odds for a rally tomorrow have increased following GOOG or at least stayed the same.

Randy, I don't see much <abbr class='c2c-text-hover' title='1) A bounce/pullback off support/resistance and/or a temporary consolidation around that level following a well-established trend leading up to that point. 2) A reaction low or high is a distinct point where the price of a security changed direction.'>reaction</abbr> in AH for GOOG. What implication does this non-action in AH so far have on NDX tomorrow?

Translation: A long on /NQ, QQQ, TQQQ, etc. here with a stop placed not too far below seems objective, particularly for a day trade. Even if a long position taken here gets stopped out, the downside risk (loss potential) is minimal in comparison to the gain potential, should my analysis prove correct.

With that being said, GOOGL (Alphabet Inc), one of the largest components of the NDX, reports after the market close today so any NDX related position taken home tonight is likely to gap one way or the other at the opening bell tomorrow. On the 60-minute chart, GOOGL has minor support at 1063.50 with <abbr class='c2c-text-hover' title='An uptrend occurs when a security or index is making a series of higher highs & higher lows.'>uptrend</abbr> line support just below that & then moderate-to-strong support not far below that at 1046.75.

As always, don't read too much into the post-earnings sharp price swing in GOOG/GOOGL as the initial knee-jerk <abbr class='c2c-text-hover' title='1) A bounce/pullback off support/resistance and/or a temporary consolidation around that level following a well-established trend leading up to that point. 2) A reaction low or high is a distinct point where the price of a security changed direction.'>reaction</abbr> if often faded. We'll have a better idea of where GOOG is headed after any initial rip or dip from any order imbalances at the open tomorrow has abated
