Ok, thx for clarifying. Most likely, that is because TVIX tracks short-term VIX futures & with the FOMC rate announcement scheduled for 2pm EST tomorrow, it is all but guaranteed to see some volatility in the wake of the announcement & subsequent comments from the Fed. The rise in TVIX reflects an increase in buying of short-term options to hedge against and/or speculate on any near-term spikes in volatility.

Between SPY or the $VIX? SPY seems to be moving roughly inverse with TVIX & the $VIX, as it usually (but not always) does. If you could clarify what time frame & which security you’ve noticed the disconnect I will take a closer look.
