"I’d also underline waiting on the “sell signals” all firing,"... Agreed 100% as that is critical when trading options. I often say there is a difference between being early & wrong when trading stocks: I am "early" if I go long or short a stock that takes much longer than I expected to hit my price target as long as I am not stopped out first. However, I am "wrong" if my stop is hit, even if the stock goes on from there to play out as expected & hit my price target.
However, when trading options, being too early is usually the same as being wrong even if the underlying stock doesn't move against the direction of your trade but also doesn't move IN the direction of your trade or at least not fast enough. As such, with options, you not only have to get the call on where the underlying is headed but also when it will get there within a fairly accurate window.

Yes, I have traded LABU, LABD & XBI (the latter of which the former 2 track) extensively for years, with a good part (but not all) of that analysis & previous trade ideas here (many of the posts from the first link, XBI analysis, will overlap with the 2nd two links, which are LABD & LABU home page posts).

https://rightsideofthechart.com/tag/labd/
Here's the post from Feb 2016 when I closed out a short trade on LABU for an 85% gain, which was used as a proxy to short the biotechs after I called for a bear market ("Biotech Wreck Pending") in the sector back in July 2015, literally just a few days before the biotech sector peaked followed by a vicious 50% bear market:

https://rightsideofthechart.com/closing-labu-short-trade-for-85-gain/
I opted to short LABU instead of buying LABD (or shorting XBI) to profit from both the drop in the biotechs as well as benefit from the decay suffered by 3x leveraged ETFs over time, especially LABD & LABU (two of the worst offenders when it comes to decay).

Yep, It's all about the <abbr class='c2c-text-hover' title='Risk-to-Reward Ratio. e.g.- a 3:1 R/R would entail risking $1 of loss for every $3 of profit potential on the trade.'>R/R</abbr> (risk vs. reward). The primary trend in the stock market remains bullish but the R/R on swing, trend or position trading on the long-side seems quite unfavorable to me, yet there aren't any decent sell signals in place to make a solid case for a swing short right now either. Maybe soon, maybe later but until then, better fish to fry elsewhere especially with stocks & sectors that aren't heavily weighted in the major stock indexes.
Still awaiting a decent buy signal in the pot stocks but if & when that comes AND the sector (i.e.- the majority of the pot stocks) start rallying in unison, there should be a nice momentum trade there that could provide some quick & fairly large gains as a little as 5% upside in MJ has the potential to spark a short-covering rally which will then draw in the momo-traders.

I've waded in and dollar cost averaged, into many of the almost "official" trades, before signals, and usually do better than 20% to 40% (but usually do better than 100%+ on official trades); yes I've cut losses on some, but only because I entered too early, (not including a mere 2 losers) but successful on over 90% of ones I selected and felt great about // that have the volume conducive and greeks most favorable to options trading. Hope that encourages you! Good luck!

I don't see anything compelling that stands out on the charts of XBI so I really don't have an opinion worth sharing.
In reply to <a href="https://rightsideofthechart.com/generic-specialty-drug-manufacturers-trade-ideas-2/#comment-13102">Frankie3</a>.

Welcome, Frankie3! I don't post options trades as I primarily trade (and share) trade ideas on individual stocks, ETFs & futures. As I like to say, getting the call on where a stock, index or sector is headed can be hard enough. Trying to nail down not only WHERE the trade is headed but also WHEN it will get there brings in a whole other degree of difficulty.
With that being said, I can often get a pretty decent read on roughly when a trade will hit my price target, depending on the chart pattern or technical formation it broke out of & most importantly if that breakout has already occurred. In other words, a trade setup with bullish or bearish technicals in place or still developing can be hard to gauge when or even IF the stock will get to my price target as a buy or sell signal hasn't yet been triggered & may not be, with the bullish or bearish setup ending up being negated.
An example of that would be the clearly bearish developments that have been building on the major stock indices since early 2018, such as the divergences between price & the momentum indicators as well as breadth divergences on daily, weekly & even monthly charts. As such, I've had longer-term downside targets on SPY & QQQ down around the 2014-2015 highs for quite some time now but there are still several long-term sell signals & trend indicators that need to trigger/flip to bearish and that could take several more weeks or even months, assuming they do trigger soon.
My point is that any long positions on QQQ & SPY puts/leaps opened when those bearish technicals started to develop a while back would be melting down. However, once I get the final sell signals that I'm waiting for, I can "guesstimate" with what I believe to be a fairly accurate time frame on how long it will take the stock market to drop the 30% or so (from current levels) that I expect it will.
As such, if you are considering an options trade on any of the ETF or individual stock trade ideas that I post, just let me know if you'd like my estimate on when the target(s) are likely to be hit which will help you determine your strike price & expiration.
To your other question, I fairly regularly cover the top 5-10 components of QQQ, which are mostly tech stocks (AAPL, MSFT, FB, GOOGL, etc.), quite often in videos covering what I call the FAAMGs. You can find the most recent front-page analysis on any stock or ETF using the "Select Symbol Tag" drop-down menu towards the bottom of the RSOTC Support Center located under the Resources link on the top menu of the site. The search function (also at the bottom of that page, in the main menu and on the right edge screen when in the trading room) can be used to find mentions of individual stocks, ETFs & futures on both the front page, comments, as well as within the trading room.

My point is that any long positions on QQQ & SPY puts/leaps opened when those bearish technicals started to develop a while back would be melting down. However, once I get the final sell signals that I’m waiting for, I can “guesstimate” with what I believe to be a fairly accurate time frame on how long it will take the stock market to drop the 30% or so (from current levels) that I expect it will.
As such, if you are considering an options trade on any of the ETF or individual stock trade ideas that I post, just let me know if you’d like my estimate on when the target(s) are likely to be hit which will help you determine your strike price & expiration.
To your other question, I fairly regularly cover the top 5-10 components of QQQ, which are mostly tech stocks (AAPL, MSFT, FB, GOOGL, etc.), quite often in videos covering what I call the FAAMGs. You can find the most recent front-page analysis on any stock or ETF using the “Select Symbol Tag” drop-down menu towards the bottom of the RSOTC Support Center located under the Resources link on the top menu of the site. The search function (also at the bottom of that page, in the main menu and on the right edge screen when in the trading room) can be used to find mentions of individual stocks, ETFs & futures on both the front page, comments, as well as within the trading room.

Hey randy, Hope its going well. I just paid for your service but I am a options trader. Are you going to be posting charts for options? ROKU MSFT JNJ AAPL ... for example? You post a lot about SPY but i wanted to know if you post for the other tech individual stocks? It would be nice if you did charts for option players. Please get back to me thanks
