@rsotc When calculating position size, if you use a daily close (which I actually like for swing trading) versus a hard stop, do you make any adjustments? i.e. how do you calculate the position size without knowing the actual stop? For instance this was an additional 7% risk from the stop level versus the close.

Do you ever use average true range (ATR) when calculating stops or position size? Do any brokerages actually have a specific order type to STOP you out if price closes on the daily timeframe below your level? Or do you simply exit in the trade after hours if your stop is triggered?

Absolutely!! Position size is key. I do my best to convey my thoughts regarding position sizing, with downward adjustments to low-priced, low-volume, or very volatile stocks, ETF, or commodities. I also go the other way with very low-volatility instruments, such as trades on Treasury bonds (TLT, /ZB, etc.), sharing my preference for about a 3x increase over a typical position size due to the relatively low gain & loss percentages on those trades. Ditto for leverage ETFs: e.g- If using a long in SOXS (-3x) to short the semis instead of shorting SOXX, one should buy about 1/3 $$ less than they would in a short position of SOXX.

Randy, I really appreciate when you post the stop outs and not just the wins. Thank you!

Position size seems to be such a key to this game as well as discipline.
