Whose “after-hours”? Iran is nearly halfway around the world. Plus, militaries don’t abide by the 9-5 work hours schedule regardless. Bottom line is that Iran & the rest of that region are like an active volcano right now that can re-erupt at any time. As such, one needs to factor that in with their total exposure to just about anything that could be affected with a sharp move in either direction (stocks, oil, nat gas, select commodities, etc..)

Warran Buffet said it best: “Rule #1: Don’t lose money. Rule #2: Don’t forget rule #1.

While we can literally prevent any drawdowns in swing trading or even investing, for that matter, risk management, including loss mitigation, is critical for long-term success.

My preference is to hold off for now. This bounce could get sold into at anytime but as of now, I still favor my bounce target on QQQ & if that’s hit, the semis are going up with it.

That’s my plan, at least for now & it could change anytime (& I’ll share my thoughts, as always).

I’ve been watching XLE but when, (not if, and it can certainly go higher before then) crude does have the next substantial correction, I expect crude to fall much more than XLE since the drop in XLE (which is mostly weighted towards just 2 stocks, anyway.. XOM & CVX at over a 40% weighting) will likely be partially offset by a rally in the broad market, with energy one of the 11 sectors of the S&P 500 (so money flows into the index will proportionally go into those stocks).

Either way, sell signal to come on a break below this price channel (upper-most uptrend line, not including the divergence line/top of channel):

YW & fwiw, my preference is to use crude futures (/CL,/QM, or /MCL), for those who have a futures account. If (a lot more) bombs start flying in the Middle East at 3 am & crude spikes up 10%+ in the overnight session, I will have gone to bed that night, sleeping well knowing that my GTC stop loss order will help prevent waking up to a huge gap well beyond my stop loss order if I had bought SCO (-2x ETF) or shorted USO.

For those who only trade ETFs & ETNs, just be aware of the substantially elevated risk of a big gap down (or up) & adjust position size commensurate with your risk tolerance.
