Down pretty hard today for sure &amp; not to be a stickler for terms but I would only use the term &#039;breaking down&#039; if today&#039;s impulsive drop followed a break of a pretty well-defined support level or bearish chart pattern, which doesn&#039;t seem to be the case from what I can see.
 The 60-minute charts of GLD, /GC, &amp; /SI (silver futures) below show both GLD &amp; /GC (gold futures) falling to (or just a hair below on /GC) some minor &lt;abbr class=&#039;c2c-text-hover&#039; title=&#039;An uptrend occurs when a security or index is making a series of higher highs &#038; higher lows.&#039;&gt;uptrend&lt;/abbr&gt; lines while still in a very near-term uptrend since the Sept 24-25 divergent low. The intermediate-term trend (since the Aug 6th high) remains bearish (&lt;abbr class=&#039;c2c-text-hover&#039; title=&#039;A downtrend occurs when a security or index is making a series of lower lows &#038; lower highs.&#039;&gt;downtrend&lt;/abbr&gt;) for now. Should gold fall much more, that could be bearish although I have to say these minor uptrend lines off the lows don&#039;t have many &lt;abbr class=&#039;c2c-text-hover&#039; title=&#039;1) A bounce/pullback off support/resistance and/or a temporary consolidation around that level following a well-established trend leading up to that point. 2) A reaction low or high is a distinct point where the price of a security changed direction.&#039;&gt;reaction&lt;/abbr&gt; points in which to validate them so I wouldn&#039;t put too much stock into them.]]></description>
