Down pretty hard today for sure & not to be a stickler for terms but I would only use the term ‘breaking down’ if today’s impulsive drop followed a break of a pretty well-defined support level or bearish chart pattern, which doesn’t seem to be the case from what I can see.
The 60-minute charts of GLD, /GC, & /SI (silver futures) below show both GLD & /GC (gold futures) falling to (or just a hair below on /GC) some minor uptrend lines while still in a very near-term uptrend since the Sept 24-25 divergent low. The intermediate-term trend (since the Aug 6th high) remains bearish (downtrend) for now. Should gold fall much more, that could be bearish although I have to say these minor uptrend lines off the lows don’t have many reaction points in which to validate them so I wouldn’t put too much stock into them.
