Great point (on the bottom of support zone now being resistance) but in this particular instance, not necessarily. If it were a stock or non-leveraged index or sector ETF, then yes. However, although VXX isn't a 2x or 3x leverage ETN, it does track what is probably the single worst index for decay of any out there, the $VIX. The cost to roll the VIX futures and other factor that cause VXX to decay over time (as bad or worse than many index or sector leveraged ETFs) cause VXX to gradually "fall more" than the $VIX.

Pull a long-term chart of VXX & compare to the $VIX & you'll see. That is the reason when I listed the price targets for that recent trade I put the "~" in front of each target, meaning "roughly" or "approximately".

Best to align entries & exits on any $VIX tracking ETN with 1) The stock market (SPY/$SPX); 2) The particular VIX futures contract that that particular VIX ETN is tracking (in the case of VXX, that would be the front month and/or next month futures, which VXX is constantly rolling) and to a lesser extend, the spot VIX ($VIX).

Easiest way to trade the VIX is simply go long when you have a high-degree of confidence for a pullback/short-trade in the stock market and short it when you have a high-degree of confidence in a rally. Don't stay too late at the party on either trade (book profits when you think the move might be over or close to over).
